Information for Parents

What Are The Problems?

Research shows that the majority of students who are diagnosed with learning difficulties including dyslexia have poorly developed visual and/or auditory skills. Specifically, these include eye movements, plus a range of skills that relate to visual and auditory perception. Diagnosing such problems requires specialized testing procedures over and above the standard clinical tests of sight or hearing. When deficiencies are found and treated then signficant gains can be achieved in academic learning.

What Can Be Done?

Poor visual and auditory skills can be improved through training. This involves doing various prescribed activities for around 10 minutes a day at home and/or at school. In the school setting this may require using a hand held device called FixTrain+. To find out more about our training programme click here.

Where to From Here?

We recommend that all students with a learning difficulty should have an optometry and audiology examination. Once eyesight and hearing problems have been addressed, students should have their eye movements and perceptual skills assessed. To make an appointment with our clinic click here.
